An investment in innovation

Sandvik Coromant opens three new productivity and innovation centers

As part of its continued investment in customer experience and knowledge sharing, leader in metal cutting Sandvik Coromant has opened three new Sandvik Coromant Centers. The centers — opening in Milan in Italy, Istanbul in Turkey and Renningen in Germany — form part of a global network of facilities dedicated to showcasing metal cutting expertise and helping to solve customer challenges.

Sandvik Coromant was the first company in the cutting tool industry to establish application centers. Currently, there are 17 Sandvik Coromant Centers located across Europe, the Americas and Asia. The centers form a unique part of the Sandvik Coromant experience, giving customers the opportunity to get hands-on experience with state-of-the-art machines and receive advice from skilled staff.

At the centers, customers can work together with Sandvik Coromant experts, including manufacturing specialists, development and process engineers and CAM programmers, to develop new ways of overcoming their machining challenges. Live demonstrations, customer events and training sessions are also held at Sandvik Coromant Centers.

While each facility has a physical location, the new centers have been built with digital adaptability in mind. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced a new remote working paradigm, with research conducted by Mckinsey finding that 38% of respondents expect their remote employees to work two or more days a week away from the office after the pandemic, compared to 22% of respondents surveyed before the pandemic.

In response to this shift, Sandvik Coromant has seized the opportunity to explore new ways to engage and communicate with customers. As such, the new Sandvik Coromant Centers will also act as hubs for virtual training and events.

The interconnectivity of the centers facilitates many opportunities for collaboration. Already, Sandvik Coromant Centers are working together, and with industry partners, across the globe to deliver webinars and digital events that tackle some of the most pertinent manufacturing concerns, such as reducing downtime, best machining practices and selecting the right tool for the job. The three new centers in Renningen, Istanbul and Milan will form part of this network.

“By investing in three new Sandvik Coromant Centers, the goal is not only to innovate, but to build on the success of existing locations and foster cross-center collaboration,” said Helen Blomqvist, President of Sandvik Coromant. “These investments are natural parts of Sandvik Coromant’s focus on growth throughout the complete manufacturing value chain, by expanding our offer as well as reach. This is always done with our customers in mind and our expansion and investments are part of our journey to delivering enhanced machining solutions with an end-to-end impact.

“Opening new Sandvik Coromant Centers is an important part of our strategy, to offer an exclusive experience that supports customers physically and digitally. We know that a small investment in improving your staff’s metal cutting skills can make a big difference to a company’s productivity, and it takes more than the right tool to make these gains. Customers can come to Sandvik Coromant with a challenge, and leave with a solution.”

Later in 2021, Sandvik Coromant will add to its investment in its facilities, with the opening of another new center located in Mebane, North Carolina, US.

The Sandvik Coromant Centers in Italy, Germany and Turkey will be officially inaugurated in June 2021. To learn more about Sandvik Coromant’s global network of Sandvik Coromant Centers, visit the website.
