DMG MORI implements production of the future

Bielefeld / Pfronten // DMG MORI strengthens its DECKEL MAHO Pfronten location: In the new, 4,000 m2 monoBLOCK Excellence Factory, DMG MORI now produces up to 1,000 machine tools per year thanks to a future-oriented assembly concept. The core of the ultramodern flow assembly is an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) transport system. The high process efficiency ensures maximum customer benefit.

"Investments in innovations are the only way out of the crisis. Therefore, we are also automating and digitizing our internal value chain," says Christian Thönes, Chairman of the Executive Board of DMG MORI AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT.

"Today, our new monoBLOCK Excellence Factory in Pfronten already demonstrates what tomorrow's production will look like. Using modern automation and digitization solutions, we consistently realign our locations to the production of the future," adds Michael Horn, Executive Board member of DMG MORI AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT.

In the new monoBLOCK Excellence Factory, AGVs move the machines autonomously through the assembly process at a continuous speed of 45 mm/minute. The complete model mix of DMG MORI's monoBLOCK 5-axis machining centers is thus created in 34 cycles. The innovative concept boosts production capacities by 30 % which opens up the possibility to produce 1,000 customer-specific solutions of the designated machine tool series annually at this site. DMG MORI passes on the cost savings of the more efficient production directly to its customers.

At each assembly step, the employees in the monoBLOCK Excellence Factory are supported by digital information, pictures and videos via a TULIP app, developed especially for this purpose. The US start-up's software enables users without programming skills to create their own applications quickly and intuitively. In addition, interactive checklists and inspection plans document the entire assembly process in real time for consistently high-quality standards.

Currently, 1,570 employees, including 125 trainees, work at DMG MORI in Pfronten.
